This is not a "we will migrate you to Shopify" pitch. You already sell on Shopify and the platform is not the question. What is usually missing is an engineer who will touch the theme code, wire up the app your operations team keeps asking for, and close the conversion leaks nobody has time for. Out-of-the-box Shopify themes look fine and convert poorly. Conversion-rate optimisation is the difference between a store that pays the bills and a store that scales — and most Shopify themes are not optimised. PDPs are too long, checkouts have unnecessary friction, cart drawers do not upsell, image sizes are wrong, mobile typography is too small. Each of these is a small fix; together they double conversion.

Hydrogen is Shopify's React-based headless framework. It enables custom storefronts that decouple from Liquid themes entirely. The trade-off is complexity: you give up the visual theme editor, you take on hosting (Oxygen or your own infra), and you need real frontend engineering. For stores doing serious volume, Hydrogen pays for itself in conversion gains and developer velocity.

Shopify Apps are the way to extend Shopify beyond what themes allow. Building an app means dealing with OAuth, the Admin API (GraphQL preferred), webhooks, GDPR webhooks, and the App Bridge. The review process for the App Store is strict. We have shipped public and private apps and know the rejection patterns.

Checkout extensions replaced checkout.liquid for Shopify Plus stores. They are React-based, run in a sandboxed runtime, and have specific APIs for adding fields, validation, and discounts. Building them requires familiarity with the Checkout Extensibility framework, not legacy Liquid checkout hacks.
